Steel City Coffee celebrates eight years in Phoenixville with free music and special deal

Steel City Coffee House will celebrate its 8th Anniversary on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 6-9 pm with an open house.

The open house will feature free music provided by local artists and special deals on food, beverages, and holiday gift cards. To encourage people to come out to this event they are giving away a free "perfect pot" of coffee to the first 50 people who arrive at 6:00 pm.

Founded in 2002, the coffeehouse has been credited with being a major part in the revitalization of Phoenixville.

In the last eight years Steel City Coffee House has developed into one of the best loved small music venues in the Philadelphia region, on par with the likes of the Tin Angel and The Point (no longer in business).

While supporting local artists and bands, Steel City has found a niche in presenting high profile artists, like Steve Forbert, Graham Parker, Francis Dunnery, Kaki King and Rory Block in an intimate setting.

In addition it is home to one of the biggest open mic nights in the area, averaging 75 attendees each week.

While they are generally open to show attendees only on Friday and Saturday evenings, two times a year they host an open house.

According to Jane Tucker, co-owner of Steel City, „having an open house on a Friday evening gives people who might not know about our business a chance to stop in and try our drinks and listen to quality local music."

The open house also gives them a chance to draw from the ever growing pedestrian traffic on Fridays in Phoenixville.

According to Tucker, the open house will feature free music provided by local artist "boog," a young Philadelphia songwriter and Temple student who frequents Steel City's open mic night.

In addition, Emily Bless, a graduate of the Tufts Music Program will perform both original tunes and covers of Jazz and Blues arrangements.

In addition, the business will be offering food specials, including buy one get one half price deals, 25 percent off holiday gift cards, and a free copy of The Local List for any purchases of $20 or higher.
